AFTER SEEING THE DESTRUCTION CAUSED BY THE HIROSHIMA BOMBING, WHY DID AMERICA STILL DROP ANOTHER BOMB ON NAGASAKI?

@Divyaksh1023

Japan had still not surrendered after the bombing of Hiroshima despite how bad it was. Perhaps the allies felt that this blow would be enough to hit the nails home.

@remmy2456

@Divyaksh1023 I understand that but it doesn't seem to make sense. even before dropping the bomb on Hiroshima, Japan was too weak to keep fighting. they would have surrendered anyway. Apparently, they had even tried to reach out to America but sadly they did that through USSR. if Japan was weak anyway and America knew about it then why did they have to drop either of the bombs?

WHY DID AMERICA GET INCREASINGLY INSECURE WITH JAPANS GROWING POWER IN THE EAST? SO MUCH SO THAT THEY BEGAN PLACING OIL EMBARGOS ON JAPAN?

@KartikC

The west has always had a problem with the east. it's not a surprise. especially after seeing such a small island nation take over Russia, then the USSR, it is natural for them to feel nervous!

@meijiwoo

Perhaps it was BECAUSE of the fact that Japan beat USSR that America wanted to do it too. It was perhaps to show the world that they beat Japan when USSR couldn't.

@molinrogue

@meijiwoo I understand what you're trying to say and is possible but not probable. I just feel it might be a little far fetched that's all.

CAN ANYBODY SUGGEST ANY GOOD BOOKS ON THE TOPIC OF THE OKINAWA INVASION? FICTION OR NON-FICTION, BOTH ARE ALRIGHT.

@nirikururugi

I do know a few but they are all in Japanese. Are those all right? If not perhaps you could look for English translations for the same. they're great books and are very very informative too. they are fiction. One is an anthology of poems and the other is a novel.

@jamesSullivan

@nirikururugi Thank you very much! those will do. Can you DM me the names of those books?

@Mirandamoore

@nirikururugi , @jamesSullivan can you please share the names on this thread? I would like to know too. Thank you!
